September In The Food Garden

Vegetable plantings in September

In Tasmania, the soil is still very cool. It is better to sow vegetable seedlings in trays on a heat pad for reliable germination. Radish seed is reliably sown in the open garden at this time of the year.
The following table shows vegetables I plant with confidence in a cool climate such as Northern Tasmania. Victoria may be up to 3 weeks earlier than this. I have found that early sowings often result in failure if the weather turns cold. Refer to the specific note links to each of the vegetebles.
