December Asparagus maintenance
Asparagus plants should be allowed to grow fully now after harvesting emerging spears in September to November. Fertilise the bed with COF and allow the fern to develop fully. You will cut these off at the ground, before mulching and adding compost to the bed in April when the ferns turn yellow. This will allow the plants to overwinter, having stored food they have photosynthesised in the fern growth over Summer.. See here for full instructions.
